Davey Hiester is a 21st Century musician native to West Philadelphia. Growing up with a piano in the house, he began taking lessons at the age of six, and decided to pursue music shortly thereafter when he saw a movie about JS Bach. A graduate of Central High School (277), he currently attends The University of Texas at Austin, where he majors Bassoon Performance with Professor Kristin Wolfe Jensen, in addition to studying Music Composition and Rhetoric.
Among several ensembles with which he appears, he is the Music Director and President of the Center City Chamber Orchestra, which he co-founded in 2018. Hiester has been recognized for his abilities as a conductor, composer, community leader, concert curator, audio engineer, producer, engraver, and teacher. He has travelled around the country and beyond for many engagements as a bassoonist and contrabassoonist.
Beyond music, Hiester enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching sports, playing basketball, cycling, and trying new foods. A locally renowned pitmaster in his own right, his barbecue has been revered as some of the finest.
