Taryn Marks is a junior percussionist at Furman University, majoring in music performance. She is currently studying under Dr. Omar Carmenates, where she is a part of Furman’s Paladin Regiment, Bands, Symphony Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble. Previously, she studied under Mr. Everett Beale at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, where she participated in the SCGSAH Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra, and the SCGSAH choir. She has done multiple outreach events including First Look, The Cliffs at Glassy Hills, Band for Govie, First Baptist Church of Greenville, Governor’s School Choir/Cantus Chamber Choir, Performance Tour in Germany, Reasons to be Cheerful, PASIC, and Berea First Baptist Church.
She was born in Augusta, Georgia, and lives in North Augusta, South Carolina, where she has participated in Region Band, All-County Band, Percussion Ensemble, and the Jacket Regiment at North Augusta High School. She has participated in master classes with Dr. Scott Herring, Dr. Omar Carmenates, and Mr. John R. Beck. She has also participated in the Carolina Youth Symphony Concerto Competition. She was selected as timpanist of the Spring SCGSAH Percussion Ensemble in 2018, was featured as solo timpanist in the Fall SCGSAH Percussion Ensemble in 2019, and was selected to play in the Senior Music Showcase in the spring of 2019 at SCGSAH. She is currently finishing up her internship with the organization Kinds of Kings.
