Iffat Karim is a multi-faceted visual artist, currently based in Chicago, Illinois, she creates narrative fantasy portraits and landscapes. Originally from California, Iffat has been painting and drawing since childhood, along with various forms of artmaking: Sewing, weaving, and jewelry making. Iffat completed her Bachelor in the Arts from Columbia College Chicago. Throughout her academic career she also developed skills in printmaking, papermaking, sculpture, and digital art.
Iffat specializes in acrylic, watercolor, and drawing. Her practice is centered around worldbuilding, a realm that she created as a child to escape domestic violence. To build this realm Iffat researches natural sciences, such as, zoology, entomology, botany, ecology, etc. Iffat also studies indigenous societies, ancient civilizations, mythology, and folklore of various regions to build the culture and societies of her realm. She specifically studies regions and cultures that are not European or Caucasion.
Currently Iffat is getting back into the art communities and workforce and volunteering with Chicago’s LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities and organizations.
