Catherine Jones-Whitman

Richmond, VA

Catherine Jones-Whitman is an artist and educator based in Richmond, Virginia. She is licenced in prek-12 Visual Art Education with over a decade of experience teaching children and adults in museums, community centers, and both private and public schools. Catherine specializes in drawing, painting, and mixed media art and she enjoys helping her students explore new art-making techniques while emphasizing the cultural and social impact that art can produce. In her spare time, she loves thrifting, making homemade pasta, and painting in her home studio.

After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in 2011, Catherine moved to Lewiston, Maine to complete a Museum Education Fellowship with Bates College Museum of Art. From this fellowship, her love of contemporary art continued to grow. Following her fellowship, she returned to Virginia to join the Education Department at The Fralin Museum of Art at The University of Virginia where she taught hands-on art lessons and organized tours of the museum. Catherine began teaching in the classroom full-time in 2015 in Richmond Public Schools. Most recently, Catherine has specialized in teaching students with disabilities and learners with neurological differences. She looks forward to joining the Empowering Communities Through Art community and sharing her expertise and love of art with you!
